Gouache Classes
Two 2hr sessions - $40 if no supplies needed
Or $75 supplies included
Gouache is a type of water-based paint that combines the properties of watercolor and acrylic. It has a high pigment concentration, making it more opaque than watercolor, but it can still be reactivated with water like watercolor paint. It dries to a matte finish, which reduces glare and makes it ideal for scanning or photographing.
Expect to complete or nearly complete a landscape with provided reference photo on the first day and a still life or floral on the second day.
Your supply list (I can send an amazon list of supplies upon request)
TWO Wrapped canvas or board, watercolor or mixed media paper or sketchbook the heavier the paper the better. Any size between 8x10 to 11x14.
Gouache recommended: Whatever you have from such brands as Winsor & Newton, Holbein, Schminke, Sennelier, M. Graham, Da Vinci. Some more budget friendly brands are Lukas, Turner, Himi (Himi is not lightfast). If you have never tried gouache and don't want to invest in a higher priced pro paint set, the Himi 24 color set with mixing palette and three brushes included is very reasonable and is what I will use during the first class. (see photo)
Container for clean water
Plastic mixing pallet, plastic plate, butcher tray etc
A few of your favorite short-handled brushes that work well with acrylics such as Golden or white Taklon/nylon brushes. Watercolor or sable brushes not recommended as they are too soft for gouache.
Please do not purchase ACRYL Gouache, which is actually a thin bodied acrylic more than an actual gouache.
